 Presentation
We found that we were not very much confident while giving our presentation. We were well prepared but at the time when we were standing in front of our fellow mates and lecturer, we got nervous and we were not able to explain the slides as per our expectations. It is a phobia which will go as we get more chance to stand in front of the class. We will surely give better performance next time as we have learnt from our mistakes this time.

Practical working of Electric jack:
With a series of pictures we will explain the process of lifting the car as our practical work to test the functioning of our project.

It was tough to find desert in Auckland but somehow we were able to. This is the picture stating the scenario of a stuck car in deserts of Auckland, similarly to the car gets stuck in dense desert. This is the actual time to test our electric jack.

At this moment we used our electric jack and placed it besides the tires as seen in the picture. It is not in a extended motion now. This picture shows the location of our jack without giving a lifting movement to the car.
This picture is showing the lifting that is obtained from the jack. We used the motor power to lift the jack and motor was being operated by the car battery. This was the beginning of obtaining lift through the electric jack.
Finally we got the desired lift. A very important step to remember is to fill the gap with enough amount of sand so that the car does not get stuck again. As the gap will be filled, the jack will be removed and the car will be ready to move further.
Finally we covered the gap with sand and our car is now ready to move. We used some amount of water to mix with the sand so that the surface becomes harder which can avoid car to get stuck again.

Advantages of Electric Jack:
Ø  As electric jack does not comprise of many parts, its weight is less which does not add more weight to the car. This gives an easy jacking to the car.

Ø  Electric jack is not very costly. The design and construction is not very complex and neither heavy modification is required. So to install the jack not much money has to be paid.

Ø  Maintenance cost is less as it does not have more parts that require servicing. It mainly has a motor which needs to be serviced in a specific time period depending upon the usage.

Ø  Physical energy is not required. A person can just sit in the car and operate the switch. Operating the switch you can control the amount of lift. Thus a person can get relief from the mental and physical loads.

Ø  Major Modification is not required. It just requires fitting fixtures to install the electric jack in the car.

Ø  Easy installation and easy to remove: This feature adds values to the electric jack.

Ø  Not higher amount of battery is consumed in the operation.

Ø  A good lift is possible using an electric jack. Lift of approximately 14inches or more can be obtained depending on the size and specification of the jack used.

Ø  It does not require a high knowledge to install the parts so this can be done in a simple workshop too.

Ø  Parts are of the common types. No extra component is required which needs to be ordered specially. All the parts included can be made available easily.

Ø  It serves the purpose of lifting at cheaper rates. Time can be saved on both installation and its jacking operation.

How electric motor translates electric to mechanical?

Changing electric energy into torque energy requires the use of an electic motor. Electric energy is divide

from the flow of electrons. An electric motor converts the flow of electrons using electromagnets rotate an

axle. The axle then genertates torque on whatever is hooked to its open end. This entails hooking the electric

motor to your power supply, be it a battery or power plug. So long as electricity flows, the current will be

converted to torque.

Switch

With this type of switch available for a driver to operate, we can control the amount of lift that is

required. It has two buttons, one for giving the lift and the other to reduce it. This type of switch

will make it very easy for a person to control the amount of lift desired. This switch will be all

time available in dashboard of a car.

Advantages of electric jack:

It is simple construction, less modification, cheaper in price, less maintenance, fewer parts,

easy to install are some of the advantages associated with electric jack. It will lift the car in the

deserts at a very cheaper rates unlike other jacks that require a lot of modification as well as

money.

Working of the electric jack:

Jack will be located to some distance from the tires. It will be mounted to the lower portion of

the body and wires will be connecting to the motor. This motor will take the power from the

battery. The whole operation will be controlled by a switch that is located on a dashboard of a

car. On operating it, power will be drawn from the battery to the motor and further via wires, will

lift the jack.

Saturday, 15 September 2012

Parts of electric jack:

Not many parts are required for the electric jack. Jack, motor, connecting wires, black box and

a switch is sufficient to form electric jack. Combining together we can have the electric jack

ready.

Electric jack:

It is operated electrically through a battery. It will be operated by a switch in the dashboard of

the car. The jack will be similar to the simple mechanical jack but will be connected through the

motor operated by a battery.

Limitations of Mechanical jack:

In spite of many advantages we came up with few drawbacks due to which we have switched out topic to

other type of jacking system. They are as follows:

Ø  Major modification involved
Ø  Higher cost
Ø  Lack of idea among common people
Ø  Maintenance is more
Ø  Parts are not available easily

Working of Mechanical jack.

This jack will employ two levers which will be used to lift the car. Jack will be mounted just ahead to the tires

at a lower portion of the car where maximum lift can be expected. It will take the power from the drive shaft

through a set of worm gear. When the car is stuck, worm gear will come in operating condition through the

use of two levers and this gear will then transfer the movement to the jack which will lift the car.

Mechanical jack:

This is not a simple traditional jack as we get in a car kit but our group has together tried to invent a new

idea. Cars are very prone to get stuck in the deserts and to overcome it we need some new technology. This

jack will take the power from drive shaft and will lift the car in the deserts without wasting human energy. It

will be operated through a dashboard by a driver. It will be user friendly and effective method to recover

cars from the deserts.

How many people die in the deserts.

Thousands of people have lost their life in the deserts. It is sometimes the fault of people as

they underestimate the deserts or overestimate their own capabilities. This place is not to

prove your strength but a proper strategy should be applied to save ourselves from these

deadly deserts. The biggest reason for the deaths occurred is due to the car getting stuck in the

deserts. This is the problem which is giving a deadly conclusion. If something can be done to

stop the car getting stuck in the deserts, many life can be saved and deserts will be only meant

for a vacation and not as it is known now, a deadly place.

This is the picture of our electric jack. The green jack which you can see at the top will be enclosed in a black box located at the lower portion of the car. There will be a switch that can be operated through cabin to control the jacking of the car. This jack will have a motor taking power from the battery of the car. Now when the car has stuck in the sand, driver can turn the switch on which will then turn the motor on. This motor will lift the jack that is enclosed in a black box, lifting the car and with the enough acceleration the car can be moved forward. It will be a user friendly jack which will not need any physical stamina and with just one switch we can overcome this problem.
Advantages of electric jack:

Cheap price: In comparison to hydraulic jack this will be cheaper as there are not many parts involved in it. With just few parts we can have the same outcome as of hydraulic jack.
Time saving: As we do not need to use our physical energy to roll the mechanical jack and so lifting the car, it will save a lot of time sitting in a car and letting the electric jack to work on its own.
Energy saved: This jack will be designed for more comfort and relaxation avoiding physical stamina. This will be just operated through cabin and so no energy required to operate it.
Less space: This will not need any space in the boot area of a car as it will be installed in the lower portion of the car by default. No compromise will be needed to store your personal belongings in the boot area

We agreed to change our idea  hydraulic to electric:

Hydraulic system use fluids to transfer from one place to another and it works better than solids as fluids can form any shapes. It also suffer less damage than any other system as they do not have much hard parts rubbing with each other. Apart from all these advantages, Hydraulic system have many disadvantages which are listed below:

More expensive: One biggest drawback of Hydraulic system is its cost. In comparison to Pneumatic system, it is more complex and expensive. As the cost is high, it is not preferred much among common people.
Oil problems: As hydraulic system uses oil, there is a chance of fire if the system is leaky. It is hazardous for health as the system is under high pressure and the fluid may shoot at high velocity which can harm people around.
Filters: Hydraulic system have to be checked for oil on a regular basis.  Filtration of oil is very important to check for broken particles.

Leaks: It is a big problem in hydraulic system of leaks. The areas which have leaks will also have high internal temperature which pose a health hazard to people.
Because of all these problems we have decided to switch this topic to electric jack that will be enclosed in a lower portion of the car, operated though a switch in cabin.

When we listen a work ‘Deserts’, the first thing which comes in the mind is a place without plants and human. Deserts can be said as a dry place with sand dunes for miles and miles with a scorching sun burning the sand. One interesting fact about desert is that it is spreaded over 1/5th part of the world’s land surface. It is the area where the average rainfall is less than 250mm of rain per year. Sometimes the annual rainfall is noted to 20mm which leads to intense dryness for long years. One of the famous deserts in North Africa is Sahara Desert. This desert is the hottest place in the world with temperature of 58 C in the shade where as in the night temperature goes very low below the freezing point (YPTE, n.d.).

Hi

I visited workshop two days before and was accompanied with two of my friends Sahid and Ahmed. We read about a case to lift the Car from sand. It is actually a very complex process involving two sets equipped with four small wheels that is connected mechanically to the movements of transmission. This process takes a lot of time as the complexity is more. This process has got advantages when the car is stuck in the mud or sand.

Monday, 30 April 2012

New topic
Concept: To install two sets equipped with four small rubber wheels or one complete strong rubber rolling cover connected mechanically to the movements of the transmission through two arms between the main transmission and the proposed sets.
These two suggested sets are to be used manually through gears or push buttons. Also these sets will suddenly act automatically through sensor when one or two flat rear tires took place, the sets will suddenly lower to the level of the ground and act as additional tires to control the vehicle for safety precautions.
Note: This concept could be relocated behind the rear differential and connected mechanically to the differential box with same function mentioned above and this location may be much better.

Benefits:
1- To move the vehicle slowly when stock up on sand or mud areas.
2- To jack up the stocked up vehicle or to replace rear tires.
3- To control the vehicle through sensors during the flat tires of rear tires for safety precaution

Hi everyone.

I have met with my group in the library. We discussed about the problem of High temperature of the gearbox oil. This problem is common in my country because of the high temperature of the weather. We going to do a small radiator in front of the air.
Thanks.

The firest lecture

It was the firest lecture for me in this year. All the teachers were there to welcome and I got most of the advice from teachers. Then I chose a group to start the project. I was very happy with students and teachers. I look forward to working with my group and artistic leader.
